Handcrafted Silver Jewelry
I have been making fine silver (.999) jewelry for about 11 years. My work is inspired by nature, sealife, the sensual flower paintings of Georgia O'Keeffe, architecture and abstract design.
I have been an artist for decades, painting with acrylics for many years, creating polymer clay jewelry and kitchenware. When I heard of this new silver, I was excited to take a class, I was hooked immediately, I discovered that this is "my medium."
Pure silver metal clay was developed in Japan in the 90s using recycled silver ground into microscopic particles and combined with a small amount of organic binder and water to form a clay like substance. It is an amazingly versatile material, lending itself to sculpture, molding, carving, texturizing and all clay processes. After a piece is formed, it is kiln fired to 1650F for up to 2 hours where the organic material burns away and the silver fuses leaving a piece of jewelry that is .999 pure silver also known as Fine Silver.
I was honored to have one of my flower necklace named as a finalist in the prestigious Saul Bell Design Award competition in 2011. It was also published in Lark books: Showcase 500 Art Necklaces, a fabulous collection of the best neck wear from around the globe! Additionally, my work has been published in numerous other books and journals.
I hold a Level 2 PMC Artisan certification.
